Stripers, Bass, Perch, you name it
Show up at the right time of the year (actually every day of the year) and you’ll find fantastic fishing and hunting in the Chowan County area. People come from states around to enjoy the Striper fishing. As indicated by the North Carolina Wildlife Commission’s site: Edenton is at the point of convergence for the Roanoke River and the Albemarle Sound. The Roanoke is one of the two largest rivers feeding fresh water into the Sound. Thus, some of the very best Striper fishing occurs within eyesight of Edenton’s harbor. Numerous fishing tournaments occur each year with a full schedule organized by Bayside Marine also known as Pembroke Fishing Center.

Get on the Water
Sailing has a very long tradition all along the Albemarle Sound. What once was an occupational and transportation necessity (think colonial-era Interstates) is now a recreational opportunity. While cruising is a newer use of these water, it is a super opportunity making Edenton a great base of operations. Cruisers can go north up the Chowan River almost all of the way to Virginia. Or, they can explore numerous rivers and creeks that feed the rivers and Albemarle Sound. What they will not find is crowded waterways, gaudy developments, or interference with the natural beauty of these old environments. Various groups sail or cruise into Edenton each year, but many arrive solo.
