Daedalus Yachts

A world-leader in Zero-emission yachts.

Daedalus Yachts is a premier yacht builder specializing in zero emission yachts designed, built, and engineered using carbon fiber technology. Daedalus is the only serial manufacturer of carbon yachts over 60 feet located in the USA.  Daedalus Yachts received the honor of their D100 catamaran as one of three nominees for the International Yacht and Aviation Design Award in the Concept  Yacht Under 40 Meters Category.

Daedalus is considered to have been the greatest inventor in ancient Greece, known to be a skillful architect and craftsman and seen as a symbol of wisdom, knowledge and power.  He designed and created for King Minos of Crete the Labyrinth that confined the Minotaur, and for his son Icarus, the wings that led to Icarus’ death when, as mythology has it, he flew too close to the sun.

Daedalus Yachts has looked to its ancient namesake as its inspiration to constantly search for creativity and innovation in the design, engineering and creation of its sea-going vessels.   Daedalus has been applying new design concepts, cutting-edge engineering and new systems integration in building an extremely high quality, comfortable, clean and green performance 101-foot catamaran at its shipyard in Edenton, North Carolina.   Wind, water, solar and hydrogen are the power plants that are driving innovation in the D101.  Energy generated from renewable sources will be used for all equipment and systems onboard without the need for any fossil fuels.

Michael Reardon, Daedalus’ CEO, has crafted future-focused carbon-fiber composite boats for over 35 years, and has applied that technology to the building of the D101.  The exterior and interior design of the D101 has primarily been the creation of Jonas Hertwig, Daedalus’ Director of Design, working closely with Michael and his business partner, Zurich-based Stefan Muff.   Daedalus is pleased to have had its D101 shortlisted in the Concept Design Category for the 2023 International Yacht and Aviation Awards in Venice.

In setting up operations in Edenton, Daedalus has committed time, effort and considerable financial resources to its current manufacturing facility.  In the process, the company has created jobs for many individuals from the local community, most of whom had no previous experience in building boats but who were able to obtain valuable training and experience via the company’s on-site production managers.

The Edenton Chowan Partnership supported establishing offices and a factory in the former Carolina Classics boat factory and  helped secure two $500,000 building and reuse grants from the NC Department of Commerce resulting in a private investment of $879,755 by Daedalus Yachts. They are expected to create between 50-136 new jobs in the community.
