How Can We Help You? 7 Ways Edenton Chowan Partnership Supports Businesses

Workforce education

Edenton and Chowan County are quickly growing as a key regional hub for businesses by combining a dynamic workforce, business friendly government, and affordable real estate options.

Formed on the banks of the Albemarle Sound more than 400 years ago, our agricultural community is centrally located along the East Coast and has attracted a diversity of manufacturing and industrial businesses to settle here.

While we are proud of our agricultural heritage, we are excited about the possibility of growing through other industries, and we want to support businesses who chose to invest in our community.

The Edenton Chowan Partnership was formed to work in association with the County, Town, and the private sector to undertake initiatives that foster business development, retain existing businesses, create private investment and jobs, and increase local revenue.

If you are looking to relocate your company or start a new business in a community that supports you, we invite you to look into Edenton and Chowan County.

How can we help you?

Here are 7 Ways that Edenton Chowan Partnership Supports Businesses:

1.  Finding You the Perfect Location

We can help you find the right location for your business. Whether you are looking for an industrial site, a downtown building, or waterfront access, we can help you locate just what you need!

By keeping our finger on the pulse of local real estate and actively looking for investment opportunities, we’ve helped companies get established here and expand with properties that meet their needs. And we can do the same for you.

In addition, a portion of our county has been declared a federal Opportunity Zone with major tax benefits for businesses and investors. We can help you figure out whether taking advantage of an Opportunity Zone is best for your company and show you exactly where those parcels of land are located.

No matter how big or small of a location, we can help you find exactly what your business needs to successfully get started and grow here in Chowan County.

2. Securing Grants and Funding

We also help companies secure the grants and funding they need to expand and create jobs.

For example, we helped Colony Tire secure a $400,000 building and reuse grant from the NC Department of Commerce for a facility expansion and funded a 5% match of $20,000 for the project.

Also, we helped Daedalus Yachts secure two $500,000 building and reuse grants from the NC Department of Commerce in order to expand and create jobs, and we’ve assisted other local boat manufacturers secure building and reuse grants from the NC Department of Commerce.

This is just a small sampling of the work we’ve done to help companies get the funding they need to succeed and grow. And we can help you, too!

3. Collaborating with Local Government

We are your advocate to help you navigate and collaborate with local government. We work closely with our town and county leaders to solicit their support for local businesses.

For instance, we adopted resolutions encouraging governmental agencies to support dredging and waterfront development of a 50-acre site and other facilities at Stevens Towing Riverbulk Terminal.

As a team, we worked closely with the Town and County to help family-owned business Nebraska Plastics establish a second facility in Chowan County.

We also collaborate with the Town, County, and Airport Commission to support the growth and expansion of our local airport so that businesses have the transportation avenues they need to continue doing business here.

And, finally, we fund research studies to assist the Town of Edenton and Chowan County with exploring and identifying economic development opportunities.

4. Fostering Community Cooperation

In addition to working closely with local government leaders, we partner with other local community organizations to support economic growth here in Chowan County.

6. Offering Employee Training

In today’s fast-paced world, we know how important it is to have workers with the skills, tools, and knowledge necessary to stay competitive.

We are actively building and supporting training programs, college certifications, and the school-to-career pipeline to make sure that our businesses can hire and retain qualified employees.

We’ve teamed up with our local public schools and colleges, such as College of The Albemarle (COA), to offer workforce development training in skilled trades and high demand jobs.

If you’re looking to start a new business, we partner with the COA Small Business Center, the Edenton-Chowan Chamber of Commerce, and Destination Downtown Edenton to offer workshops and seminars that cover a variety of topics, such as business planning, marketing, and financial management.

Our connections can help you build the workforce that you need to move your business forward both now and in the future.
