About the Edenton Chowan Partnership

The Edenton Chowan Partnership, Inc. is an IRS recognized 501 (c)(3) North Carolina corporation.  Our goal is to promote the vitality of Edenton and Chowan County.   We work to improve the quality of life by promoting workforce education, awareness and promotion of our County and Town, and by providing information for potential retirees or economic developers to build stronger, stable, social, economic and community strengths.

Examples of our recent work include:

  • Providing information to the College of the Albemarle about the farming and agricultural processing resources of Chowan County and the region as COA designed a new agriculture degree program;
  • Assisting an existing industry with information about state grants to expedite its industrial expansion to meet growing national demand;
  • Funded research studies to help the Town of Edenton and Chowan County better understand the feasibility of developing a senior living facility and an additional grocery store;
  • Drafted Edenton’s application for NC Certified Retirement Community designation and the Golden LEAF grant that enabled county government to expand promotional and informational activities; and
  • Supported and endorsed the Chowan County School Superintendent’s successful efforts to secure “Workforce Ready” status for Chowan County.

The Edenton Chowan Partnership’s Vision is to enrich the lives for our residents and to develop a sustainable economic and social vitality that serves to advance the Town of Edenton and Chowan County.

The Edenton Chowan Partnership’s Mission is to provide the research and information that fosters responsible Economic Development opportunities. We seek to encourage workforce development that serves the growth and retention of the workforce for existing businesses while attracting others to our town’s and county’s business friendly environment.  We assist in the development and dissemination of information about the lifestyle and Community Living assets of the area, thus enabling potential retirees to identify desirable retirement options in a beautiful waterfront community.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

  • To expand the size and quality of the workforce and to support the betterment of individuals and their families of all ages in our community;
  • To conduct research and provide information that helps retain and grow existing businesses and attracts new businesses and industries;
  • Assist in the development of the quality of life environment that comes from solid employment, art and educatoinal opportunities for all residents of the community;
  • To centralize, collaborate and coordinate information dissemination by the public and private sectors of the Town of Edenton and Chowan County;
  • To work with local, county and regional institutions including the Chowan County Tourism Development Authority, and Edenton Chowan Chamber of Commerce, the Albemarle Commission, Destination Downtown Edenton and numerous not-for-profit organizations in the preparation of consistent messages about the colonial capitol of North Carolina; and
  • To serve as the interface and synchronizer with North Carolina state and regional economic development research organizations, retirement promotion analysis and the academic entities developing information resources for international port operations and sustainable agricultural processes.
